The Arts
The Arts
This Facet was established in 1964. The goal of The Arts Facet is to increase and expand art activity. The Los Angeles Chapter has a rich history of purchasing Artifacts for exhibits, exhibiting key collections of African American Artists, commissioning works and Sculptures by African American Artists, support of the South East Symphony and notable performances by African American Artists.
Today, the Los Angeles Chapter supports Art Classics through the Ages as a program, designed to focus on increasing the interest, knowledge and participation of African American youth in the classical arts. It provides student artists opportunities to hone their talents and skills, and earn recognition and support for their educational and career pursuits.
The LA Chapter Arts Facet conducted field Trips with African American High school seniors to:
- California African American Museum to expose them to the African American Civil War exhibit and the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance exhibit (2015)
- Coordinated Assembly “Music to Math” with LA Phil. To introduce the Arts to STEM and took Leadership Institute Students to see Ma Rainey at the Mark Taper Forum (2016)
- Participated in the National Women’s Month Recognition Brunch with National Trends at the African American History Museum at Macy’s 3rd Floor for Cynthia St. James and Jacob Lawrence Exhibits (3/11/2017)
