The Los Angeles (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated proudly shines a spotlight on Honorary Member Kamala D. Harris, a global symbol of excellence in leadership, justice, and public service.

 

 As the first woman, and first Black American to serve as Vice President of the United States, Madam Vice President Harris has reshaped what’s possible—not only in our nation, but across the world. From leading U.S. delegations to summits in Asia, Africa, and Europe, to championing global human rights, gender equity, climate justice, and economic development, her diplomatic presence has expanded the reach of Black women’s leadership on the world stage. Throughout her career, she has engaged with world leaders to strengthen alliances, advocate for marginalized communities, and support democratic institutions—amplifying a legacy of justice that transcends borders.  

The International Trends Facet is especially proud to honor Vice President Harris as part of our month-long tribute to four internationally acclaimed Black women who exemplify the global impact of Black excellence. Her work reminds us that when Black women lead, the world listens—and changes. We remain committed to celebrating, uplifting, and educating our communities about the contributions of women whose vision knows no boundaries.

In celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, The Los Angeles (CA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated proudly recognizes Betty G (Bruktawit Getahun)—a trailblazing Ethiopian singer and humanitarian whose music transcends borders and uplifts communities.

A globally recognized artist, Betty G has redefined international music, blending Amharic, French, and English lyrics with diverse musical influences, from jazz and rock to traditional Ethiopian sounds. Her critically acclaimed albums, Manew Fitsum (2015) and Wegegta (2018), not only dominated the charts but also earned her multiple All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), solidifying her as one of the most influential female artists in Eastern Africa.

Beyond her artistry, Betty G’s impact extends far beyond the stage. As a UNHCR high-profile supporter, she has worked tirelessly to advocate for refugee rights, particularly for women and children, using her voice to bring attention to the plight of displaced communities in Ethiopia and beyond. Her commitment to social justice was further recognized when she performed at the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, honoring Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Betty G represents the power of music as a vehicle for cultural exchange, social change, and empowerment. She stands as a beacon of inspiration for women and girls worldwide, proving that artistry and advocacy can go hand in hand in shaping a more just and equitable world.
